Bombing Hills with Steve.

Goodbye material world! from SPONTAZY on Vimeo.

This is Steve, some of you may also know Steve by the name of "Venom" a character of sorts that would suddenly appear at many a great skate sessions over the years.

I heard earlier this year Venom was hanging up his hat. However, just before we all could shed a tear, SPONTAZY was born. You may find this all amusing, I know, it's a bit silly, and it's suppose to be. But Steve's genuine about his goofing, and it has earned him sponsor ships with Emerica shoes and Bones wheels. Hell he even had his own board out at one point!

See, sometimes sponsorship in skateboarding isn't about being the best skateboarder on the planet. Sometimes it's about being so unique that people want to support your creativity.

One more thing, the real reason for this post is because this is where I learned to bomb hills. It's a park just outside of my home town of Lincoln NE. And yes, those "gaps" in the sidewalk will pitch you off your board face first into the grass.

MC Load and SkaterAid.

So I went to Decatur on some business Sunday afternoon, and I drive by a sign that says "SkaterAid" then see a kid on a board Downtown and ask if there is a skate shop near by.

He tells me no, but that he's going to some sort of contest to see if he can get sponsored.

OK? What's the deal?

Best Trick Contest.

Mike who wants to be sponsored. Oh to be sixteen again.

Photog's. I know "D" (on the Left) was good friends with Ian Wochatz.

Best Trick contest winning trick, Travis Murphy of Reveal Skateboards with a Kickflip 5-0.

Matt coming out of a bad ass BS Smith.

So I go back to where the sign is, and I kid you not. This was one of the best skateboard related events I've been to. First, it was all to raise money for families of children who are battling cancer. Second, it felt like I was in a time warp, as it was held in a rough parking lot with just a few ramps, just like back in the day, before we were lucky enough to have so many skateparks at our disposal. Third, Beer, and this was good beer from my favorite Atlanta brewery, 5 Seasons.
Now you know the rest of the story. OH BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE.

Then to top it all off the Element team showed up. Darrell Stanton hung around looking cool, Jeremy Wray skated a quarter pipe your mom could blunt on, and Brent Atchley styled out with some freaky sock/shoes. I met new Atlanta resident, wood bender and SPOT Party Team Member Alan Russell who explained the inner workings of EXPN Super Park ramp. Welcome to Georgia, Alan.

Thomas Taylor played a big part in organizing the event and deserves a solid high five for his efforts. But the best part in my opinion was Load. Who knew Load was so talented on the mic. I'm serious, he did a great job keeping everyone entertained at SkaterAid.
